With Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE), NetPhantom uses a CAB file to distribute the Java applet code.
Sometimes you might get a "CAB File Error" message. This could be due to the following:
- The CAB file is downloaded as unpacked in the same "environment space" as Temporary Internet Files.
This setting in MSIE is defaulted to the C: drive with a maximum disk space usage of 10% of free disk space.
The NetPhantom Java Client requires (unpacked) about 4-5 MB of disk space, plus the downloaded file, resulting in about 5-6 MB.
This means that you must have at least 50-60 MB free hard disk space on your C: drive.
- You have a lot of free disk space, yet you get the error.
MSIE uses the "Java Package Manager" for CAB file handling. Certain versions of MSIE are more or less tolerant to faults,
e.g. if you cancel a download and installation of a CAB file or you get a connection failure during the process.
To resolve the situation, do one of the following:
- Open the directory "C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files" under Windows NT/2000
or "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files". Update the items called "NetPhantom..." by selecting them, pressing mouse button 2
and selecting Update. If status is displayed as "Damaged", proceed to #2 below.
- Open the directory "C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files" under Windows NT/2000
or "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files". Remove the items called "NetPhantom..." by selecting them, pressing mouse button 2
and selecting Remove. Open the Web page that downloads the NetPhantom Client again in a newly started MSIE,
not just a new window. If you still get the "CAB File Error", check #3 below.
- This applies to experienced users or administrators only! Open the Registry Editor (REGEDIT), search for "NetPhantomClient"
and delete all the folders (on the left hand side of the window) containing "NetPhantomClient". Make sure only to delete the direct parent
folder of the "NetPhantomClient" item, otherwise you might end up with a corrupt registry. Normally this item is found once or twice in the registry,
unless the NetPhantom Client with SSL is used -- then you might find it two to four times.
- You have no privileges to write to the downloaded program files registry or you are running MSIE from a secured Windows Terminal Server with
virtually no disk access rights.
If the problem still cannot be resolved, contact your system administrator.
